VETOES

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed Senate Bill 347.

This bill provides that geothermal resources on
State-owned property may be sold, leased, or otherwise
disposed of for consideration deemed adequate by the Board
of Public Works, subject to such conditions as the Board and
the Department of Natural Resources may impose.

House Bill 652, which was enacted by the General
Assembly and signed by me on May 12, 1981, accomplishes the
same purpose.

Therefore it is unnecessary for me to sign Senate Bill
347.

Sincerely,
Harry Hughes
Governor

Senate Bill No. 374

AN ACT concerning

Real Property - Release of Mortgages

FOR the purpose of permitting, under certain circumstances,
a mortgage to be indexed and recorded when marked "paid
or canceled"; and allowing the mortgage to act as a
release; and stating the location where the mortgage is
recorded.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article - Real Property

Section 3-105

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1974 Volume and 1980 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:
