JOINT RESOLUTIONS
The Neglected Disease of Modern Society" strongly
recommended the creation of a National Trauma Institute that
never materialized; and
WHEREAS, The Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical
Services, located at the University of Maryland, has made
unprecedented progress in the development of Emergency
Medical Services systems and the study and treatment of
trauma victims resulting in the recognition of The Maryland
Institute of Emergency Medical Services as the international
leader in this highly complex facet of the medical world;
and
WHEREAS, The Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical
Services could enhance still further the nation's ability to
combat this medical phenomenon that clains claims thousands
of lives and costs taxpayers billions of dollars each year,
if it became the national center for trauma-related
treatment and research; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
U.S. Congress is requested to designate the Maryland
Institute of Emergency Medical Services as the National
Trauma Institute Center for the Study of Trauma for purposes
of conducting trauma-related medical research and acting as
a clearinghouse for the dissemination of trauma-related
information and that sufficient federal funds be provided
for this purpose; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to
each member of the Maryland Congressional Delegation; the
Honorable Harry Hughes, Governor of the State of Maryland;
the Honorable James Clark, Jr., President of the Maryland
State Senate; the Honorable Benjamin Cardin, Speaker of the
Maryland House of Delegates; Dr. John S. Toll, President of
the University of Maryland; Dr. T. Albert Farmer,
Chancellor, Baltimore Campus; and to the University of
Maryland Medical School.

Garrett County - State-Owned Land Study
FOR the purpose of directing the Department of Natural
Resources to complete its long-range plan for land
ownership in Garrett County, to initiate the process of
public discussion of the plan, and to submit by
submitting a draft of the plan to certain parties by a
certain date.
