HARRY HUGHES, Governor
271
2. DELEGATED MEDICAL FUNCTIONS; AND
(V) PERFORMING ANY ADDITIONAL ACTS
AUTHORIZED BY THE BOARD UNDER § 7-205 OF THIS TITLE.
REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language derived
without substantive change from Art. 43, §
291(b).
The definition is stated in the infinitive form
to permit minor verb variations of the defined
phrase without taking these variations out of the
scope of the definition.
In the introductory clause of paragraph (1) of
this subsection, the term "or" is substituted for
the term "and" in the phrase "biological,
physiological, behavioral, and sociological
science" to clarify that an act in the practice
of registered nursing may be based on the
principles of any one or any combination of these
sciences.
The reference in present Art. 43, § 291(b)(1)(ii)
to additional acts now appears in § 7-205 of this
title.
(I) REGISTERED NURSE.
"REGISTERED NURSE" MEANS, UNLESS THE CONTEXT REQUIRES
OTHERWISE, AN INDIVIDUAL WHO IS LICENSED BY THE BOARD TO
PRACTICE REGISTERED NURSING.
REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language added
to avoid needless repetition of phrases such as
"individual licensed to practice registered
nursing".
On occasion, the term "licensee" is used in this
title as a synonym for "registered nurse". Since
"license" is defined in subsection (c) of this
section, "licensee" need not be defined
separately.
The term "registered nurse" is a generic term
used as a term of art in the health professions
to describe an individual who practices
registered nursing. However, after consultation
with the Board, the Commission to Revise the
Annotated Code decided to use the definition of
"registered nurse" to mean an "individual who is
licensed by the Board to practice registered
nursing". While this approach differs from the
approach used in most other licensing titles of
this article, it does conform to the usage of the
term "registered nurse" in the present law and by
the Board.
