The definition is stated in the infinitive form
to permit minor verb variations of the defined
phrase, without taking these variations out of
the scope of the definition.
In the introductory paragraph of this subsection,
the reference to performing an act "that requires
knowledge, judgment, and skill ..." is new
language added to clarify the distinction between
acts performed by licensed practical nurses and
acts performed by unlicensed individuals who are
not nurses.
In items (1) and (6) of this subsection, the
phrases "treatment or medication" and "teach or
supervise" are substituted for the present
phrases "treatment and medication" and "teaching
and supervising", respectively, to clarify that
the functions may be performed independently.
As regards items (1) and (6) of this subsection,
the present references to administering treatment
or medication "as prescribed" and to teaching or
supervising "commensurate with the nurse's
education and demonstrated competencies" now
appear in § 7-309 of this title.
For the power of the Board to authorize
"additional acts" for licensed practical nurses,
see § 7-205 of this title.
The first sentence of present Art. 43, § 291(c)
now appears as § 7-309(b) of this title.
(G) PRACTICE MIDWIFERY.
"PRACTICE MIDWIFERY" MEANS TO ATTEND A WOMAN OR CHILD
AT CHILDBIRTH.
