Ch. 707

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments

14A.

(a)  Section 14 of this article does not apply to an
officer of a corporation appearing in the District Court on
behalf of that corporation in a civil suit involving a claim
not exceeding [$500] $1,000 and not based upon an assignment
to the corporation of the interest of another.

(b)  This section applies notwithstanding any Maryland
District Rule to the contrary.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1981.

(House Bill 1822)

AN ACT concerning

Teachers' Retirement and Pension Systems - Collection
of Money Due the State

FOR the purpose of providing that if an audit of a school
system, public library, or educational institution
reveals that the system, library, or institution owes
money to certain funds, the funds may not be collected

unless the school system, public library, or

educational institution has an opportunity to appeal
the decisions to the Comptroller of the Treasury and the
decision holds that such funds are owed, and providing
that such moneys owed shall be deducted from income tax

payments State funds due to a certain political

subdivision the particular system, library, or

institution altering the method of collecting certain
delinquent payments owed to the State; authorizing the
use of a setoff procedure to collect debts owed to the
State for the employer's share of the cost of certain
systems; providing a procedure for appealing certain
decisions; and providing that the appeals may not be
considered contested cases.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
