(House Bill 1564)

AN ACT concerning

Prince George's County - State's Attorney Office

PG 307-81

FOR the purpose of altering the salaries of the State's
Attorney, deputy State's attorney and certain
assistants to the State's attorney of Prince George's
County; altering certain limitations on the private
practice of law; and clarifying language.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 10 - Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact

Section 40(a) and (q)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1976 Replacement Volume and 1980 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 10 - Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact

40.

(a) The State's attorneys in the several counties of
the State shall receive annually the respective salaries set
forth for performing the duties required of them by their
respective public local laws and by the public general laws,
and such expenses as are provided by law and by the current
practice in the several counties. [As specified herein,
they] THE STATE'S ATTORNEYS shall receive annual payments
for office, traveling and other expenses. All payments for
salaries and expenses shall be made by the respective
counties in equal monthly [instalments] INSTALLMENTS unless
otherwise specified. The salaries and expenses are as
follows:

(q) In Prince George's County (1) the State's
Attorney's salary shall be [equal to the salary of the
circuit judges of the several courts of the eight judicial
circuits. The] DETERMINED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY. EXCEPT
AS PROVIDED IN PARAGRAPH (10) OF THIS SUBSECTION, THE
State's Attorney, during his term of office, shall not,
except in connection with and in the performance of his
duties as such State's Attorney, appear as counsel or
represent any party professionally before any court, board,
commission, or agency of this State or any county or
political subdivision of this State. [It is intended by the
