SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That chapter(s) of the Acts of the General
Assembly be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as
follows:
Chapter 910 of the Acts of 1978 as amended by
Chapter 466 of the Acts of 1979 and by
Chapter 270 of the Acts of 1980
AN ACT concerning
Creation of a State Debt - Elderly Citizens Activities
Centers Improvements Loan
FOR the purpose of authorizing the creation of a State Debt
in the amount of [$1,600,000] $2,600,000 $2,000,000
$2,600,000, the proceeds to be used for State grants to
local governmental agencies to convert surplus public
school buildings and other public buildings or parts
thereof to Elderly Citizen Activities Centers and to
equip the converted centers to serve the needs of
elderly citizens; stipulating that included among other
public buildings are armories and any public building
which may be either entirely or partially available for
conversion; and providing generally for the issue and.
sale of bonds evidencing the loan.
Preamble
WHEREAS, The General Assembly takes note of the fact
that certain public school buildings and other public
buildings have become excess to the needs of federal, state,
and local governments, and there is a requirement for
facilities to serve the needs of elderly citizens and;
WHEREAS, It is the intent of the General Assembly to
provide State assistance to local governments for the
purpose of converting surplus public school buildings and
other public buildings or parts thereof to use as centers
for elderly citizens; now, therefore,
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That:
(1) The Board of Public Works may borrow money and
incur indebtedness on behalf of the State of Maryland
through a State loan to be known as the Elderly Citizens
Activities Center Improvements Loan of 1979 in the aggregate
principal amount of [$1,600,000] $2,600,000 $2,000,000
$2,600,000. This loan shall be evidenced by the issuance
and sale of State general obligation bonds authorized by a
resolution of the Board of Public Works and issued, sold and
delivered in accordance with the provisions of §§ 19 to 23
of Article 31 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1976
Replacement Volume and 1977 Supplement, as amended from time
to time).
