(House Bill 1073)

AN ACT concerning

Garrett County - Election Board

FOR the purpose of increasing the salary of the president
and each member of the Garrett County Election Board;
and providing the salary increase shall take effect at
the beginning of the next following term of office; and
making this Act an emergency measure.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 33 - Election Code

Section 2-3(a)(12)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1976 Replacement Volume and 1980 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 33 - Election Code

2-3.

(a) Each member of the boards of the several political
subdivisions of the State shall receive an annual salary of
not less than the following amounts:

(12) Garrett County: [$1,300 for president and
other members.]

(I)  PRESIDENT $1,800; AND

(II)  MEMBERS $1,500 EACH.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
may not be construed to extend or apply to the salary of the
president and each member of the Garrett County Election
Board in office on the effective date of this Act, but the
provisions of this Act concerning the salary of the
president and each member of the Garrett County Election
Board shall take effect at the beginning of the next
following term of office.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1981 is hereby declared to be an
emergency measure and necessary for the immediate
preservation of the public health and safety and having been
passed by a yea and nay vote supported by three-fifths of
all the members elected to each of the two Houses of the
General Assembly, the same shall take effect from the date
of its passage.
