CHAPTER 305

(Senate Bill 668)

AN ACT concerning

Charles County - State's Attorney Office Salaries

FOR the purpose of periodically increasing the salary of the
Charles County State's Attorney; designating certain
salary levels for certain other staff members of the
State's Attorney's office; prohibiting certain of these
staff members from certain private law practice; and
extending county employment benefits to some of these
staff members.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 10 - Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact

40.

[(i) (1) In Charles County, the State's Attorney's
salary is $28,000 a year; and he shall serve full time. He
shall appoint a deputy State's attorney who shall serve full
time and whose salary shall be at such compensation, not
exceeding $22,500 a year, as the County Commissioners may
deem proper. In addition to the deputy State's attorney,
the State's Attorney may appoint part-time assistant State's
attorneys in the number approved by the senior resident
circuit court judge. The salaries of these attorneys shall
be a sum not exceeding $18,000 a year as the County
Commissioners may deem proper.
