Third Daÿ of Augt Anno Dñi 1703 att Island hundred in Kent wthin ye Jurisdiction of this Court wth force and armes one Rugg of ye price of two hundred pounds of tobacco the prper goods of a Certaine James then and there felloniouslÿ Did take and bear away agt ye peace of our Said Ladÿ ye Queen and ag ye form of ye Act of assemblÿ in ye Case made and prvided Macklin pr Dña Regiña Which Said bill of Indictment was Endorsed wth these words vizt A True bill William Hackett fforeman ~ ~ And now here this Daÿ to witt this 25th Daÿ of of Januarÿ Anno Dñi 1703 and ye Sd John Bowles being Calld to ye barre to answer ye prmisses He ye Sd John Saÿeth for plea, yt he is not Guiltÿ and for Trÿall And yt fallows for Ladÿ ye Queen Richd Macklin pr Dña regina putts himselfe upon ye Countrÿ ^ Whereupon Comãnd is Given to ye Sherf of Kent Countÿ yt he Immediate Cause to Come here twelve &ca bÿ whome &ca who neither &ca to recognize because as well &ca And the Said Sherf Saÿeth y he hath here readÿ twelve &ca as bÿ his Sd prcept he was Comãnd to witt John Davis John Hurt Anthõ Iveÿ Jno Hughes Thomas Ponneÿ Georg Smith Samuell Taÿlor Nicholas Marseÿ Richard Moore Richard Mason George Copper Edward Mahar who being Due Elected Trÿed and Sworn Doe Saÿ upon their ~ oathes wee of ye Jurÿ Doe finde ye prisonr att ye barre Guiltÿ of ye premisses wherewth his Stands Charged and Soe The Saÿ all Which being bÿ ye Court heard and fullÿ understood it bÿ them Considered here this 25th Daÿ of Jarÿ ano Dñi 1703 yt ye Sd John Bowles Doe paÿ and Satisfie unto ye Sd James Williams ~ The four fowld according to ye form of ye act of assemblÿ in Cases made and prvided, wth four fowle amounts (bÿ ye Judgmt of this Court ) to ye Sume of Eight hundred pounds of tobo, as allsoe yt he The Sd John Daÿ paÿ all ffees accrewing, and then Comãnd is Given to ye Sherf of Kent Countÿ to take ye Sd John , and putt him halfe an hour in ye pillorÿ according to Lawe and after ye Sd halfe hour be Expired that ye Sd Sherf Doe take ye Sd John to ye Whiping Post, and there ye Sd John to receive twentÿ Strÿpes upon his bare back well Laÿd, And ye Said Sherf maketh retn ye Same Day and year ) Endorsed wth These words vizt Executed pr me John Hawkins |
