SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:
Article 43 - Health
615C.
(a) (1) In any county where any dog, cat or other
warm-blooded animal subject to rabies has bitten, scratched,
or exposed any person to a possible rabies infection, or
when any animal is suspected of having rabies, [it is the
duty of] any person having knowledge of these facts [to]
SHALL report them immediately by telephone or in person to
the local police or sheriff's department.
(2) Upon receipt of this report, the police or
sheriff's department personnel shall notify the local health
officer or his designee and shall enforce all orders of the
local health officer and the public health veterinarian
issued pursuant to this subtitle or any other applicable
rabies control regulations.
(3) IN FREDERICK COUNTY, ANY PERSON HAVING
KNOWLEDGE OF THE FACTS ENUMERATED IN PARAGRAPH (1) OF
SUBSECTION (A) SHALL REPORT THEM IMMEDIATELY BY TELEPHONE OR
IN PERSON TO THE ANIMAL CONTROL CENTER OF FREDERICK COUNTY.
(4) UPON IN FREDERICK COUNTY, UPON RECEIPT OF
THIS REPORT, THE ANIMAL CONTROL CENTER PERSONNEL SHALL
NOTIFY THE LOCAL HEALTH OFFICER OR HIS DESIGNEE AND SHALL
ENFORCE ALL ORDERS OF THE LOCAL HEALTH OFFICER AND THE
PUBLIC HEALTH VETERINARIAN ISSUED PURSUANT TO THIS SUBTITLE
OR ANY OTHER APPLICABLE RABIES CONTROL REGULATIONS.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1980.
