Senate Bill No. 731

AN ACT concerning

Insurance - Surplus Lines

FOR the purpose of providing when certain surplus line
insurance may be purchased from an unauthorized insurer

even though it is obtainable from an authorized

insurer; defining terms; allowing a surplus line broker
to renew certain risks; clarifying language; and
generally relating to the procuring of surplus line
insurance.

Dear Mr. President:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed Senate Bill 731.

This bill provides when certain surplus line insurance
may be purchased from an unauthorized insurer, allows a
surplus line broker to renew certain risks and generally
relates to surplus line insurance.

House Bill 1574, which was enacted by the General
Assembly and signed by me on May 27, 1980 accomplishes the
same purpose.

Therefore it is unnecessary for me to sign Senate Bill
731.
