JOINT RESOLUTIONS
WHEREAS, The Board of Medical Examiners is largely
responsible for regulations regarding medical care and
influencing professional aspects of the hospital work place;
and
WHEREAS, Several hospitals have stopped their nurses
training services; and
WHEREAS, The policies of many parts of the Department
of Health and Mental Hygiene may have caused a nursing
shortage; and
WHEREAS, The problem of decreasing nurses' services and
the role of the Department merits serious study; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is urged to identify
the problems and policies in existing practice which impact
on study the guidelines, policies, and decisions of the
Health Services Cost Review Commission, the State Health
Coordinating Council, the State Health Planning and
Development Agency, the State Board of Examiners of Nurses,
the Board of Medical Examiners and such other parts of the
Department which may affect the shortage of nurses; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That the Department should report its
findings to the General Assembly no later than January 1,
1981; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent to the
Honorable Harry Hughes, Governor of Maryland; the Honorable
James Clark, Jr., President of the Senate of Maryland; the
Honorable Benjamin T. Cardin, Speaker of the House of
Delegates; and Charles Beck Buck, Jr., Secretary of Health
and Mental Hygiene, 201 West Preston Street, Baltimore,
Maryland 21201.
