NARCOTIC DRUGS, THE COMMITMENT SHALL BE MADE BY THE JUDGE
ONLY AFTER CONSULTATION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND
MENTAL HYGIENE. In the case of a use; of narcotic drugs, the

commitment shall be made by the judge only after

consultation with the superintendent of the mental hospital
to which the commitment is to be made. THE COMMITTING COURT
SHALL BE NOTIFIED BY THE SECRETARY OR HIS DESIGNEE OF THE
PROPOSED RELEASE DATE AND THE TIME OF RELEASE PRIOR TO THAT
RELEASE.

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

4-305.

(a) If any person charged with the commission of a
criminal offense is shown, to the satisfaction of a District
Court judge, to be suffering from chronic alcoholism, or to
be habitually addicted to the use of narcotic drugs as that
term is defined in § 277(g) of Article 27 of this Code, the
judge may commit him to the Department of Health and Mental
Hygiene for evaluation, treatment, and observation. THE
DEPARTMENT SHALL ACCEPT CUSTODY OF THE PERSON SO COMMITTED.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1980.

AN ACT concerning

Mandatory Retirement - Teachers

FOR the purpose of providing that teachers at a State
university or college or community college may remain
in service until the end of the school year following
the date on which the teacher becomes 70 years old; and
generally relating to mandatory retirement for a
teacher at a State university or college.
