To prohibit, or permit and regulate, from time to time
by ordinance, amusements, entertainments or games to be
held, shown or played for recreation or profit[, and the
sale at retail of any article of merchandise] within
Baltimore City on Sunday; provided that no ordinance passed
in the exercise of this power shall become effective until
it has been submitted to and approved by the voters of
Baltimore City at such general, municipal or special
election as may be provided in such ordinance. At any such
election the general election laws of the State [shall be]
ARE applicable and the City is authorized to make use of the
facilities and equipment of the Board of Supervisors of
Election of Baltimore City. [Sections 560, 571, 575 and 576
of] Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland [(Flack's
Edition of 1939)] (1957 EDITION), title "Crimes and
Punishments", subtitle "Sabbath Breaking", [shall] DOES not
apply to Baltimore City [and shall be repealed in so far as
such sections prohibit amusements, entertainments or games
and the sale at retail of merchandise in Baltimore City on
Sunday] EXCEPT FOR §§ 534L, 534L-1, AND 534L-2.
SECTION 7. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the
provisions of this Act are preemptive and repeal
inconsistent provisions of any ordinance or resolution of
Baltimore City which regulate wholesale and retail sales on
Sunday.
SECTION 8. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1980.

AN ACT concerning
Gross Receipts Tax - Railroads - Rate Elimination
FOR the purpose of altering the rate of eliminating the
gross receipts tax on railroads; deleting the reference
to railroads in the provisions for subtracting of
certain operating revenue from taxable income of
corporations; generally revising the provisions
relating to the gross receipts tax; providing for the
effective dates of changes in railroad taxation; and
clarifying language.
