shall take effect July 1, 1980.

AN ACT concerning

Competency to Stand Trial and Responsibility for
Criminal Conduct

FOR the purpose of including mental retardation in the
definition of mental disorder for certain purposes;
correcting references; requiring the Department of
Health and Mental Hygiene to provide certain services
for certain mentally retarded defendants.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 59 - Mental Hygiene

Section 3(f), 23, 24, and 25(b)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1972 Replacement Volume and 1979 Supplement)

BY adding to

Article 59 - Mental Hygiene

Section 27B(k) (i-1)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1972 Replacement Volume and 1979 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 59 - Mental Hygiene

3.

As used in this article, the following terms shall have
the meanings indicated unless a contrary meaning is clearly
intended from the context in which the term appears:
