SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1980.

AN ACT concerning

Mental Retardation Facilities - Staffing Ratios

FOR the purpose of establishing a uniform system for
determining the number of direct care staff in a
residential facility for the mentally retarded.

Preamble

WHEREAS, In order for Maryland residential facilities
for the mentally retarded to receive federal funds, they
must meet or exceed the direct care staff-to-resident ratios
required by federal regulations on intermediate care
facilities for the mentally retarded. Since there are
various ways to define direct care staff, this Act is
intended to standardize the way in which direct care is
defined and counted when computing the direct care
staff-to-resident ratio; now, therefore,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:
