[56A.

On and after June 1, 1969, the transportation and the
persons engaged in rendering or performing such
transportation, which were subject to the jurisdiction of
the Metropolitan Transit Authority on May 31, 1969, shall be
subject to the jurisdiction of the Commission and all
provisions of this Article 78 shall be applicable to such
transportation and to such persons to the extent not
inconsistent with the additional provisions set forth
herein, which shall be applicable only to such
transportation and persons.]

Any and all funds in custody of the Metropolitan
Transit Authority at the close of business on May 31, 1969,
which are not obligated for expenses of the authority, shall
be deposited with the State Treasurer to the General Fund of
the State.]

68.

(a)  The Commission shall have the power to determine
just and reasonable rates of public service companies,
whether as maximum, minimum or maximum and minimum,
respectively. The rates so determined shall be fixed by
order to be served upon each public service company affected
thereby.

(b)  [The Commission may not authorize telephone
company charges to be levied for directory assistance prior
to the time of adjournment of the 1977 session of the
General Assembly of Maryland. The Public Service Commission
and the people's counsel, with the cooperation of the
telephone companies, shall prepare a report of the cost and
service need and impact of telephone companies levying
charges for directory assistance, and this report shall be
presented by the Commission to the General Assembly at the
commencement of the 1977 session.

(c)] The Commission may not authorize telephone
company charges to be levied for directory assistance calls
made by residential customers upon the first 12 calls made
to directory assistance from each residential service per
monthly billing cycle. The Commission may not authorize
telephone company charges to be levied for directory
assistance upon any person or persons who suffer from
physical or visual handicaps which preclude their use of
telephone directories and it may provide other exemptions
which are just and reasonable.

With respect to the transportation and persons engaged
therein specified in 56A of this article, the Commission
may order and direct:
