LAWS OF MARYLAND

Ch. 668

FOR the purpose of providing for the establishment of a
work-release program in the Calvert County jail under
the jurisdiction of the Supervisor of the Calvert
County Work-Release Program; providing guidelines for
the administration and participation in the
work-release program in the Calvert County jail; and
relating generally to a work-release program for
prisoners.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments

645Y.

(a)  Whenever any person is convicted of a crime in
which the court has the discretion to assess a fine, court
costs, or both a fine and court costs, the judge may require
the convicted person in satisfaction of the penalty to
participate in [the] A work program established under the
jurisdiction of the local office of the division of parole
and probation [in the county where the offense took place].

(b)  Any person participating in this program shall
receive a credit of at least the federal minimum wage per
hour towards the original fine and court costs imposed by
the court.

(c)  This section applies in [the following counties:]

[(1)] Anne Arundel County.

[(2) Calvert County.]

THE TIME OF SENTENCING OR UPON A HEARING OF A MOTION FOR
