(1) AT LEAST 150 OF THE 300 AWARDS SHALL BE
GRANTED TO SUPERIOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVERS WHOSE SECONDARY
SCHOOL TRANSCRIPTS THROUGH THE JUNIOR YEAR INDICATE AN
OVERALL ACADEMIC GRADE POINT AVERAGE OF AT LEAST 3.7 ON A
4.0 SCALE, OR ITS EQUIVALENT GRADE POINT AVERAGE.
(2) NO MORE THAN 150 OF THE 300 AWARDS MAY BE
GRANTED TO FINALISTS OF THE NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP
PROGRAM OR THE ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM ADMINISTERED
BY THE NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP CORPORATION.
[(b)] (C) The scholarship award shall be in the amount
[$500] $800 for use in the next ensuing academic year. Each
award, provided it is accepted by the eligible student,
shall be renewable, on an annual basis, for a maximum of 3
years subsequent to the original award, if the recipient
remains a resident of the State, attends an accredited
postsecondary institution in the State, is enrolled as a
full-time undergraduate student, and maintains a 3.0 grade
average.
18-1103.
The Board shall annually select a number of alternate
scholarship awards under this subtitle. In the event the
annual number of awards is not made, as provided in §
18-1101, the Board may make an award from the alternate list
as necessary to assure that [100] 300 awards are made
annually.
18-1104.
An award granted under this subtitle is for [$500] $800
per year and may be used for:
(1) Tuition and mandatory fees;
(2) Room and board; and
(3) Books and supplies.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1980.
