SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:
Article 43 - Health
7.
The deputy State health officers shall be experienced
physicians having [such] qualifications in the field of
public health [as] determined by the Secretary of Health and
Mental Hygiene. IN PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY THE DEPUTY STATE
HEALTH OFFICER SHALL BE A PERSON WHOSE QUALIFICATIONS IN
PUBLIC HEALTH SHALL BE DETERMINED BY THE SECRETARY OF THE
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND MENTAL HYGIENE EXCEPT THAT THE
REQUIREMENT THAT THIS PERSON BE A PHYSICIAN NEED NOT APPLY.
The deputy State health officers shall hold their office
during efficiency and good behavior, but may be removed, in
the manner provided in § 33 of Article 64A, title "Merit
System." No deputy State health officer shall practice
medicine or engage in any occupation which would conflict
with the performance of his official duties. Each deputy
State health officer shall have an office located at some
accessible point designated by the Secretary of Health and
Mental Hygiene, within his sanitary district[, and he]. HE
shall receive [such] A salary as provided in the State
budget and [shall also receive his] WHATEVER expenses HE
actually and necessarily incurred in the performance of his
official duties.

[Such local] LOCAL boards of health shall each appoint
in the month of May, 1931, and quadrenially thereafter, a
