HARRY HUGHES, Governor

1393

(2)  Special Cars and Containers. — When
explosives or detonators are transported underground by
locomotive, rope, or shuttle car, they shall be in a special
covered car or in a special container. The body and cover of
each special car and container shall be constructed of
nonconductive material. If explosives and detonators are
hauled in the same car or same special container, they shall
be separated by at least a 4 inch substantially fastened
hardwood partition or its equivalent. Permissible
explosives, detonators, and cardox shells may not be carried
on the same trip with workers. Where a quantity of
explosives and detonators is transported in a special car or
special container it shall be hauled on a special trip, not
connected with any other trip. It may not be hauled into or
out of a mine within five minutes preceding or following any
other trip.

(3)  Transportation by Belt. — Explosives and
detonators shall be transported underground by belt only
under the following conditions: In the original unopened
case, in a special closed case constructed of nonconductive
material, or in a suitable individual container. The
clearance requirement is the same as for transporting
workers on belts. A suitable loading and unloading station
shall be provided. There shall be an attendant at loading
and unloading points and stop controls at these points.

(4)  Prohibited Means of Conveyance.
Explosives or detonators may not be transported on any
flight or shaking conveyor, or by a scraper or mechanical
loading machine.

(k) (1) Where Section Boxes or Magazines Used. If an
underground section box or magazine is used, it shall be of
substantial construction and placed in a crosscut or idle
room neck at least 25 feet from any roadway or trolley wire
and in a reasonably dry and well rock-dusted place. The
explosives and detonators generally shall be kept in
separate boxes or magazines. If kept in the same box, they
shall be separated by at least a four inch substantially
fastened hardwood partition or its equivalent. Not more than
a 48-hour supply of explosives, including any surplus
remaining from the previous day, may be stored underground
in these boxes or magazines.

(2)  Storing Near Working Faces. Explosives and
detonators kept near the working face shall be stored in
separate closed containers of substantial nonconductive
material located not less than 15 feet from a rail or power
line. If kept in a niche in the rib, the distance shall be
at least five feet in a location out of the line of blast
where they will not likely be subjected to shock.

(3)  Keeping in Original Containers. Explosives
and detonators shall be kept in their containers until
removed for use at the working faces.
