(a) A man trip shall be operated at a safe speed
consistent with the condition of the road and type of
equipment used. The speed may not exceed 6 miles per hour.
(b) Each man trip shall be under the charge of a
responsible person. It shall be operated independently of
any loaded trip of coal or other material.
(c) A man trip car may not be overloaded.
(d) On a man trip there shall be provided sufficient
cars in good mechanical condition.
(e) A person may not ride under the trolley wire
unless a suitable covered man car is used.
(f) Materials or tools may not be transported in the
same car with persons on any man trip. Every person, except
the motorman, brakeman, or trip rider shall ride inside of a
man trip car.
(g) A person may not load or unload before the car in
which he is to ride or is riding comes to a full stop. He
shall proceed in an orderly manner to and from any man trip.
(h) A waiting station shall be provided where any
person is required to wait for any man trip or man cage. It
shall have sufficient room, ample clearance from moving
equipment and adequate seating facilities. If there is a
possibility any person may come in contact with energized
electric wiring while loading or unloading from a main trip,
trolley and power wires shall be guarded effectively at the
man trip stations.
(i) If belts are used to transport workers, a minimum
clearance of 18 inches shall be maintained between the belt
and the roof or crossbars, projecting equipment, cap pieces,
overhead cables, wiring, and other objects. However, where
the height of the coal bed permits, the clearance may not be
less than 24 inches. The belt speed may not exceed 250 feet
per minute while workers are loading, unloading, or being
transported. The space between any two workers riding on a
belt line shall not be less than 5 feet. Loading and
unloading stations shall be illuminated properly.
(j) An official or some other person designated by the
mine foreman shall supervise the loading and unloading of
belts and any man trip.]
