AN ACT concerning

District Court Commissioners - Peace Officers -
Acts Beyond Boundaries of Jurisdiction

FOR the purpose of permitting the Chief Judge of the
District Court to authorize commissioners to perform
certain duties relating to persons arrested in another
county; and giving peace officers certain powers for
the purpose of maintaining custody of a person taken
before a commissioner in another county.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

2-607.

(D) THE CHIEF JUDGE OF THE DISTRICT COURT MAY
AUTHORIZE ONE OR MORE COMMISSIONERS TO PERFORM THE DUTIES OF
A COMMISSIONER REGARDING PERSONS ARRESTED IN A COUNTY OTHER
THAN THE COUNTY IN WHICH THE COMMISSIONER RESIDES AND FOR
WHICH THE COMMISSIONER WAS APPOINTED WHEN THE ARRESTED
PERSONS ARE BROUGHT BEFORE THE COMMISSIONER BY A PEACE
OFFICER OF THE JURISDICTION IN WHICH THAT ARREST WAS MADE.

602C.

ANY PEACE OFFICER IN THIS STATE, FOR THE PURPOSE OF
MAINTAINING CUSTODY OF AN ARRESTED PERSON TO BRING THAT
PERSON BEFORE A DISTRICT COURT COMMISSIONER BEYOND THE
BOUNDARIES OF THE JURISDICTION FOR WHICH THE PEACE OFFICER
WAS APPOINTED AND IN WHICH THE ARREST WAS MADE, SHALL HAVE
THE SAME POWER OF ARREST TO MAINTAIN CUSTODY IN THE
JURISDICTION IN WHICH THE DISTRICT COURT COMMISSIONER IS
LOCATED THAT THE PEACE OFFICER HAS IN THE JURISDICTION FOR
