HARRY HUGHES, Governor                             1201

(1) Each applicant is required to submit to a
personal written examination to determine his competence
with respect to life insurance, health insurance or
annuities, OR SUBDIVISIONS OF THEM and his familiarity with
the pertinent provisions of the laws of this State, and
shall pass the examination to the satisfaction of the
Commissioner.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1980. is hereby declared to be an
emergency measure and necessary for the immediate
preservation of the public health and safety and having been
passed by a yea and nay vote supported by three-fifths of
all the members elected to each of the two Houses of the
General Assembly, the same shall take effect from the date
of its passage.

AN ACT concerning

Washington County - Appointment of Deputy Health Officer

FOR the purpose of requiring the approval of the Washington
County Board of County Commissioners before a deputy
health officer is appointed or reappointed.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 43 - Health

Section 46

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1971 Replacement Volume and 1979 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 43 - Health

46.

(A) [Such] EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN SUBSECTION (B), THE
local boards of health shall each appoint in the month of
May, 1931, and quadrenially thereafter, a health officer,
who shall be a well-educated physician and who by virtue of
his appointment shall be secretary and executive officer of
