(6)  The deputy State's attorney, the principal
assistant State's attorneys, and the assistant State's
attorneys, during their terms of office, except in
connection with and in the performance of their duties as
such deputy State's attorney, principal assistant State's
attorneys, and assistant State's attorneys, may not appear
as counsel or represent any party professionally before any
court, board, commission or agency of this State or any
county or political subdivision of this State. It is
intended by these provisions that the deputy State's
attorney, principal assistant State's attorneys, and
assistant State's attorneys not engage in the private
practice of law in any manner whatsoever.

(7)  The deputy State's attorney, principal
assistant State's attorneys, and the assistant State's
attorneys shall perform whatever work as may be directed by
the State's Attorney, or as authorized by law, and under the
direction of the State's Attorney, may present cases to the
grand juries, sign indictments and criminal informations and
perform whatever other acts and duties in relation to the
grand juries and in the operation of the office as are
necessary and proper.

(8) The State's Attorney may appoint an
administrative assistant to serve at the pleasure of the
State's Attorney. The annual salary of the administrative
assistant shall be within the discretion of the State's
Attorney, but in no event exceeding [$17,175] $18,380 per
annum, to be paid by the county on the certification of the
State's Attorney to the county executive and County Council.
The administrative assistant is not subject to the rules and
regulations of the county merit system, but shall be
entitled to all benefits provided for county employees under
the merit system.

(9) The salary of the State's Attorney, the
deputy State's attorney, principal assistant State's
attorney, and the assistant State's attorneys shall be paid
in equal semimonthly installments.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1980.
