Weights Lengths of Vehicles - Buses

FOR the purpose of exempting certain vehicles from the scope
of the law governing size, weight, and load of vehicles
establishing certain maximum length limits for certain
buses.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article - Transportation
Section 24-101(a) 24-104.1(c)
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1977 Volume and 1978 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article - Transportation

24-101.

(a) The provisions of this subtitle governing size,
weight, and load do not apply to.

(1) Fire apparatus;

(2) Farm equipment temporarily moved on a

highway; [or]

(3) A vehicle driven under the terms of a
special permit issued under this subtitle; OR

(4) BUSES OF ANY TYPE OWNED OR OPERATED BY A
PUBLIC BODY ENGAGED IN MASS TRANSIT.

24-104.1.

(c) Except as otherwise provided in this section;

(1)  A single unit truck may not be over 40 feet
long; [and]

(2)  A PUBLICLY-OWNED RIGID BUS MAY NOT BE OVER
41 FEET LONG;

(3)  A PUBLICLY-OWNED ARTICULATED THREE-AXLE BUS
MAY NOT BE OVER 56 FEET LONG; AND

(4)  Any other vehicle or combination of vehicles
may not be over 55 feet long.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1979.
