VETOES

AN ACT concerning

Income Tax - Standard Deduction

FOR the purpose of increasing the maximum amount of the
standard deduction allowed to Maryland taxpayers under
the State income tax law; changing the rate of the
standard deduction; providing a grant to the counties,
Baltimore City, municipal corporations and certain
special taxing areas; providing that a portion of this
Act shall be automatically repealed as of a certain
date; providing for the effect of this Act; and
generally relating thereto.

May 29, 1979
Honorable Benjamin L. Cardin
Speaker of the House of Delegates
State House
Annapolis, Maryland 21404

Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 1685.

This bill increases the maximum amount and changes the
rate of the standard deduction allowed to Maryland taxpayers
under the State income tax law.

Senate Bill 928, which was enacted by the General
Assembly and signed by me on May 14, 1979, accomplishes the
same purpose.

Therefore it is unnecessary for me to sign House Bill
1685.

Sincerely,
Harry Hughes
Governor

House Bill No. 1698
