Department of Transportation.
(Note: The provisions of Subsection 175(b) are proposed
for transfer to Section 170D; Subsection 175(c) is proposed
for transfer to Section 5; and Subsection 175(d) is proposed
for repeal as obsolete.)
Retirement for Volunteer Firemen and Fescue Squadsmen
175-1.
There is established a retirement program for qualified
active volunteer members of the Calvert County volunteer
fire companies and volunteer rescue squads. For the
purposes of this subtitle, an active volunteer member is
[defined as] a person who accumulated a minimum of 50 points
per calendar year in accordance with the point system set
forth in Section 175-4.
175-2.
(a) Any person who has served as a member of any
Calvert County volunteer fire company or Calvert County
volunteer rescue squad is eligible to receive the FOLLOWING
benefits [hereinafter set forth], provided that:
(1) The person is certified in accordance with
the provisions of Section 175—4 to have served as an active
volunteer subsequent to December 31, 1974.
(2) Any person who discontinued active
volunteer service prior to January 1, 1975 may receive
credit for the service after being certified in accordance
with the provisions of Section 175—4.
(b) Beginning January 1, 1975, any person who has
reached the age of 60 and who has completed a minimum of 25
years of certified active volunteer service, with any
Calvert County volunteer fire company or volunteer rescue
squad or combination [thereof], shall receive benefits in
the amount of $100 per month, for life. Payments shall
begin on the first day of the first month following
eligibility. The program shall be administered by the Fire
and Rescue Commission of Calvert County and payments shall
be made directly to the volunteer entitled to the benefits.
(c) An additional payment of $2 per month shall be
added to the benefits described in subsection (b) of this
Section, for each full year of volunteer service in excess
of 25 years, providing that a maximum benefit of $150 per
month or equivalent shall be payable to any individual.
(d) In the event that any active volunteer becomes
disabled during the course of his or her service as a
volunteer fireman or rescue squadsman while actively engaged
in providing the services and in the event that the
