SECTION 11. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act

AN ACT concerning
Hunting of Deer
FOR the purpose of allowing a person to hunt deer with a
handgun of a certain muzzle energy during the firearms
deer hunting season in certain areas} and—directing the
Department of Natural Resources to develop and
distribute a list of handgun and cartridge combinations
which meet certain criteria.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:
Article — Natural Resources
10-420.1.
(A) NOTWITHSTANDING ANY HUNTING LAW OR REGULATION TO
THE CONTRARY, A PERSON MAY HUNT DEER WITH A HANDGUN HAVING A
BARBEL LENGTH OF 6 INCHES OR LONGER AND AMMUNITION WHICH
PRODUCES A MUZZLE ENERGY OF 300 700 FOOT POUNDS OR MORE
DURING THE FIREARMS HUNTING SEASON ONLY IN HUNTING AREAS
WHERE A HIGH POWERED RIFLE IS ALLOWED AS PROVIDED IN SECTION
10-415 OF THIS SUBTITLE.
(B) THE DEPARTMENT SHALL DEVELOP AND MAKE AVAILABLE TO
THE PUBLIC AN ADVISORY LIST OF HANDGUN AND CARTRIDGE
COMBINATIONS WHICH COMPLY WITH THE PROVISIONS OF SUBSECTION
(A) OF THIS SECTION.
