301A.

(a) (1)        In this [section a] SUBSECTION "nurse

midwife" means     a licensed registered nurse who has been

certified by the   American College of Nurse—Midwives as a
nurse midwife.

[(b)] (2) The State Board of Examiners of Nurses
shall appoint a peer review committee to provide for
oversight of health insurance and medical assistance benefit
utilization by nurse midwives.

(B) (1) IN THIS SUBSECTION "CERTIFIED NURSE
PRACTITIONER" MEANS A LICENSED REGISTERED NURSE WHO HAS
COMPLETED A NURSE PRACTITIONER PROGRAM APPROVED BY THE
MARYLAND STATE BOARD OF EXAMINERS OF NURSES AND WHO HAS
PASSED A BOARD APPROVED EXAMINATION, AND HAS BEEN CERTIFIED
UNDER THE JOINT REGULATIONS OF THE BOARD OF MEDICAL

EXAMINERS AND THE BOARD OF NURSES.

(2) THE STATE BOARD OF EXAMINERS OF NURSES
SHALL APPOINT A PEER REVIEW COMMITTEE TO PROVIDE FOR
OVERSIGHT OF HEALTH INSURANCE AND MEDICAL ASSISTANCE BENEFIT
UTILIZATION BY CERTIFIED NURSE PRACTITIONERS.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect January 1, 1980.

(House Bill 593)

AN ACT concerning

Deaf and Hearing Impaired — Dog Guides

FOR the purpose of altering the requirements for obtaining a
license for a dog trained to aid deaf or hearing
impaired persons; substituting the term "hearing
impaired" for a certain other term; specifying the type
of license to be issued to a dog trained to aid the
deaf or hearing impaired; and requiring the Department
of General Services to purchase certain licenses and
distribute them to the counties upon payment of the
cost.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 30 — Deaf, Mute or Blind

Section 33(a), (b), (c), (d), (e), (f), (g), and (i) (4)
