SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 48A - Insurance Code

354S.

(A)    IN THIS SECTION "CERTIFIED NURSE PRACTITIONER"
MEANS A LICENSED REGISTERED NORSE WHO HAS COMPLETED A NURSE
PRACTITIONER PROGRAM APPROVED BY THE MARYLAND STATE BOARD OF
EXAMINERS OF NURSES AND WHO HAS PASSED A BOARD APPROVED
EXAMINATION, AND HAS BEEN CERTIFIED UNDER THE JOINT
REGULATIONS OF THE BOARD OF MEDICAL EXAMINERS AND THE BOARD

OF EXAMINERS OF NURSES.

(B)    AFTER JULY 1, 1980, EVERY NONPROFIT HEALTH
INSURER WHO PROPOSES TO ISSUE, RENEW, MODIFY, ALTER, AMEND,
OR REISSUE A HEALTH INSURANCE POLICY IN MARYLAND SHALL
INCLUDE OFFER THE OPTION OF PROVIDING BENEFITS FOR EXPENSES
ARISING FROM CARE, TREATMENT, OR SERVICES RENDERED BY A
CERTIFIED NURSE PRACTITIONER. THE NONPROFIT HEALTH INSURER
MAY LIMIT THE COVERAGE OFFERED TO FOR THOSE SERVICES
PROVIDED BY A NURSE PRACTITIONER WHO WORKS WHILE WORKING
DIRECTLY UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A PHYSICIAN.

(C)    AFTER JULY 1, 1980, A NONPROFIT HEALTH INSURER
SHALL RENEW, MODIFY, ALTER, AMEND, OR REISSUE ANY EXISTING
HEALTH INSURANCE POLICY TO INCLUDE OFFER THE OPTION OF
PROVIDING BENEFITS FOR EXPENSES ARISING FROM CARE,
TREATMENT, OR SERVICES RENDERED BY A CERTIFIED NURSE
PRACTITIONER. THE NONPROFIT HEALTH INSURER MAY LIMIT THE

REVIEW BY   A PEER REVIEW COMMITTEE APPOINTED BY THE STATE
BOARD OF      EXAMINERS OF NURSES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE JOINT

REGULATIONS OF THE BOARD OF MEDICAL EXAMINERS AND THE BOARD

OF EXAMINERS OF NURSES.
