[(4)] (IV) Any party fails to return a copy of
the list with his strikes within the [30-day] TIME period
SPECIFIED IN PARAGRAPH (1) OF THIS SUBSECTION, the Director
shall make the strikes for that party.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1979.

AN ACT concerning
Crimes and Punishments - Registration of Machine Guns
FOR the purpose of requiring persons possessing machine guns
to register them annually with the Superintendent of
State Police; providing that the annual registration is
not applicable in the calendar year that the machine
gun is purchased; deleting certain obsolete language;
and making certain stylistic changes.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:
Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments
379.
Every EXCEPT IN THE CALENDAR YEAR IT WAS PURCHASED,
EVERY machine gun [now] in this State shall be registered
with the Superintendent of the Maryland State Police[, on
June 1, 1933, and] annually [thereafter] BY JUNE 1 DURING
THE MONTH OF MAY. [If acquired hereafter it] ALSO, EVERY
MACHINE GUN shall be registered within 24 hours after its
acquisition. Blanks for registration shall be prepared by
the Superintendent of the State Police and furnished upon
application. To comply with this section the application
as filed must show the model and serial number of the gun,
the name, address and occupation of the person in
possession, and from whom and the purpose for which the gun
