LAWS OF MARYLAND

Ch. 22

(I)   IS FOR 3 YEARS IN THE AMOUNT OF $15,000 A
YEAR;

(II)   MAY BE USED FOR SALARY, HOUSING, AND FRINGE
BENEFITS FOR THE RESIDENT; AND

(III)    SHALL BE PAID BY THE STATE SCHOLARSHIP
BOARD DIRECTLY TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE THE RESIDENT IS
TRAINING.

(F)   APPLICATIONS.

(1)   EACH YEAR, THE STATE SCHOLARSHIP BOARD SHALL
ANNOUNCE THE AVAILABILITY AND CONDITIONS OF THESE FAMILY
PRACTICE RESIDENCIES AT MEDICAL SCHOOLS IN AND OUTSIDE THIS

STATE.

(2)   EACH APPLICANT FOR A RESIDENCY SHALL SUBMIT
AN APPLICATION PROVIDED BY THE STATE SCHOLARSHIP BOARD THAT
DEMONSTRATES HIS MERIT AND ELIGIBILITY.

(3)   THE STATE SCHOLARSHIP BOARD SHALL AWARD THE
RESIDENCIES TO THE RECIPIENTS. IF A RECIPIENT DOES NOT
ACCEPT THE RESIDENCY, THE BOARD SHALL REAWARD IT.

(G)   COMMITTEE TO DETERMINE AREAS OF NEED; REPORT TO
GENERAL ASSEMBLY.

(1)    A COMMITTEE COMPOSED OF THE SECRETARY OF
HEALTH AND MENTAL HYGIENE, A DESIGNATED REPRESENTATIVE OF
THE MEDICAL AND CHIRURGICAL FACULTY OF MARYLAND, AND THE
CHAIRMEN OF THE ACCREDITED RESIDENCY PROGRAMS IN FAMILY
PRACTICE SHALL DESIGNATE AS AREAS OF NEED THOSE AREAS IN
THIS STATE THAT HAVE AN ACUTE NEED FOR PHYSICIANS IN FAMILY
PRACTICE.

(2)    THIS COMMITTEE - SHALL SUBMIT TO THE GENERAL
ASSEMBLY NO LATER THAN OCTOBER 1 OF EACH YEAR A REPORT ON
ITS PROGRESS IN SUPPLYING FAMILY PRACTICE DOCTORS FOR THIS
STATE.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from Art. 77A,
§6lA(a) through (h) and the last sentence of (i).

The formal definitions of "area of need" and
"support costs" are deleted as unnecessary
although their substance is retained.

The balance of present Art. 77A, §61A(i) which
provides for the enforcement of a resident's bond
is deleted as unnecessary in light of the general
provisions of §18—108 of this title.
