Senate Bill No. 738 — Property Tax Credits

AN ACT concerning

Property Tax Credits

FOR the purpose of correcting an error in a cross—reference
in the law defining total real property taxes for
purposes of determining property tax credits for

homeowners.

Dear Mr. President:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed Senate Bill 738.

This bill corrects a cross—reference in a provision
that defines total real property taxes for determination of
property tax credits.

House Bill 1168, which was enacted by the General
Assembly and signed by me on May 2, 1978, creates a new
property tax credit program. In doing so, House Bill 1168
repeals the provisions affected by Senate Bill 738, but
accomplishes its purpose.

In addition, the Attorney General has advised me that
Senate Bill 738 should not be signed if House Bill 1168 is
signed. A copy of the Opinion of the Attorney General is
attached and should be considered a part of this veto
message.

For these reasons, I have decided to veto Senate Bill
738.
