BLAIR LEE III, Acting Governor                           3003

been given a low priority within the Department of Economic
and Community Development; and

WHEREAS, Maryland is one of only three States that do
not have permanent welcome centers; and

WHEREAS, Maryland's neighboring states each spend more
than one million dollars on tourist development, taking
potential tourist business away from this State; and

WHEREAS, The quick-return out-of-State money generated
by tourism is a source of revenue Maryland needs to ease the
tax burden; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Governor is requested to appoint a Tourism Advisory
Commission consisting of 15 members selected as follows:

(a) One person nominated by the Maryland Association
of Travel Executives;

(b) One person nominated by the Maryland Hotel and
Motor Inn Association;

(c)    One person nominated by the Maryland Association
of Campgrounds;

(d)    One person nominated by the Maryland State
Chamber of Commerce;

     (e) One person from each of Maryland's seven planning   

regions; and

(e) One person nominated by the Maryland Restaurant
Association;

(f) Two members of the Senate nominated by the
President of the Senate, and two members of the House of
Delegates nominated by the Speaker of the House; and

(f) (g) Three Six persons from the public at large;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That the members of the Commission should
elect a chairman, a vice—chairman, and a secretary from
among themselves, and the Commission should meet four times
each year on the call of the Chairman or of the Secretary of
Economic and Community Development; and be it further

RESOLVED, That secretarial assistance for the
Commission should be supplied by the Department of Economic
and Community Development; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Commission should provide the
Department of Economic and Community Development with the
benefits of the experience and expertise of local tourist
