JOINT RESOLUTIONS

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Legislature hereby reaffirms its belief in the free
enterprise system and its ability to provide the goods and
services necessary for the maintenance of the well-being of
the people of this State; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Maryland General Assembly finds and
declares that it is the proper function of government in
this State, at all levels, to foster and aid the private
sector of our economy and to prevent governmental
competition in areas where the private sector has the
capability to provide the goods and services required by
such bodies and agencies.

(Senate Joint Resolution 34)

A Senate Joint Resolution concerning

American Farmer

FOR the purpose of expressing the support of the General
Assembly of Maryland for the American farmer and
calling on the President of the United States , U. S.
Secretary of Agriculture and Congress to take steps to
strengthen our most basic industry.

WHEREAS, Agriculture is America's most basic and
largest industry; and

WHEREAS, The basis of our unparalleled agricultural
production and efficiency is the family farm; and

WHEREAS, In recent years many of these family farms
have suffered heavy financial difficulty due to inheritance
taxes, adverse weather and depressed prices; and

WHEREAS, Federal and State laws and regulations have
resulted in increased cost of production; and

WHEREAS, Unless the President and Congress take
positive action to revitalize agriculture as a profitable
way of life, the entire national economy will suffer; and

WHEREAS, Imports are allowed into this country below
our cost of production; and

WHEREAS, Exports are being blocked by political
indecisions; and
