Unemployment Insurance Law

FOR the purpose of amending the Unemployment Insurance Law;
precluding benefit payments based on certain services
for weeks of unemployment beginning after a certain
date, rather than on those services performed before
that date; changing the requirements for benefit
payments to aliens; deleting the disqualification
prevision based on pregnancy; specifying the
liabilities of government entities making benefit
payments in lieu of contributions; redefining certain
terms; providing for certain coverage contingent on
certain approval of an unemployment compensation law
for the Virgin Islands; denying benefits to certain
individuals under certain circumstances; deleting

certain references; changing certain requirements for

eligibility for benefits; and generally relating to
unemployment insurance.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 95A - Unemployment Insurance Law
Section 4(d)(1), (f)(2) through (5) and (h)(1), 6(f),
8(c)(2) and (d)(2), 20(g)(7)(i), (iii)A, (v)
and (vi) , 20(u)(2), 20(v), 20(x) and 21 (a) (10)

Article 95A - Unemployment Insurance Law

Section 9(b)(5)

(1969 Replacement Volume and 1977 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 95A - Unemployment Insurance Law

4.

Any unemployed individual is eligible to receive
benefits with respect to any week only if the Executive
Director finds that:

(d) (1) During [any two calendar quarters of] his

base period, he has been paid wages for insured work that

total not less than one and one—half times the upper limit

of the division for which his high quarter earnings qualify

in the schedule of benefits set forth in § 3 (b) of this

article, THAT SUM TO BE EARNED IN NOT LESS THAN TWO

QUARTERS, and during the calendar quarter of his base period
in which his total wages were highest, he has been paid at
