Article 101 — Workmen's Compensation
21.
(b) The following shall constitute employees subject
to the provisions of this act, except as exempted under
subsection (c) of this section:
(4) Every person in the service of any
political subdivision or agency thereof, under any contract
of hire, express or implied, and every official or officer
thereof, whether elected or appointed, while performing his
official duties. Except as provided in [subsection 21 (c)
(6)] SUBSECTION 21 (C) (5) of this act, every person who is
a member of a volunteer fire or rescue squad or police
department shall be deemed for the purpose of this act, to
be in the employment of the political subdivision of the
State where the department is organized. Except as provided
in [Subsection 21 (c) (6) ] SUBSECTION 21 (C) (5) of this
act, every person who is a regularly enrolled volunteer
member or trainee of the civil defense corps of this State
as established under the Maryland Civil Defense Act shall be
deemed, for the purposes of this act, to be in the
employment of the State.
(10) Student teachers and student interns as
provided in [Article 77, § 112B (b)] §6-108 OF THE EDUCATION
ARTICLE.
Article — Transportation
5-901.
In this subtitle:
(1) "Air school" means, except as provided in
item (2) of this section, any person who, whether or not for
compensation, gives or offers to give instruction in flying
or in ground subjects relating to aeronautics; and
(2) "Air school" does not include:
(i) Any public school or other
noncollegiate educational institution approved by the State
Board of Education [under Article 77 of the Code]; or
(ii) Any college, university, or other
institution of postsecondary education approved by the State
Board for Higher Education [under Article 77A of the Code].

(b) (1) "Drivers' school" means, except as provided
in paragraph (2) of this subsection, any person in the
business of giving instruction in the driving of motor
vehicles.
