FOR the purpose of reclassifying Phencyclidine as a Schedule
II controlled dangerous substance, altering the

penalties for conviction of manufacture and

distribution; and clarifying language.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 27 — Crimes and Punishments
Section 279(b) d., (c) b. and 286
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1976 Replacement Volume and 1977 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments

279.

(b) d. Depressants. Unless specifically excepted or

unless listed in another schedule, any material, compound,

mixture, or preparation which contains any quantity of the

following substances having a depressant effect on the

central nervous system, including its salts, isomers, and

salts of isomers, whenever the existence of such salts,
isomers, and salts of isomers is possible within the
specific chemical designation;

l.         Methaqualone.

2.         Amobarbital.

3. Secobarbital.

4.         Pentobarbital.

5.          PHENOYCLIDINE.

(c) b. Unless listed in another schedule, any

material, compound, mixture, or preparation which contains

any quantity of the following substances having a potential
for abuse associated with a depressant effect on the central
nervous system:

1. Any substance which contains any quantity

of a derivative of barbituric acid, or any salt of a

derivative of a barbituric acid, except those substances

which are specifically listed in other schedules.

2.         Chlorhexadol.

3. Glutethimide.

4.         Lysergic acid.

5. Lysergic acid amide.
