FOR the purpose of establishing a maximum speed limit on

    public school property and permitting boards of

education to install speed bumps or other speed control
devices under certain conditions.

FOR the purpose of permitting certain public education
authorities to establish speed limits on property under
their jurisdiction; requiring the posting of speed
limit signs on such property; and prohibiting a person
from driving at a speed that exceeds these limits;

permitting such authorities to install speed control

devices; and requiring notice of such devices.

Annotated Code of Maryland
(1977 Volume and 1977 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article — Transportation

21-801.1.

(F) A PERSON MAY NOT DRIVE A VEHICLE ON ANY PUBLIC

SCHOOL PROPERTY AT A SPEED GREATER THAN 15 MILES AN HOUR,

UNLESS IN THE LAWFUL OPERATION OF AN EMERGENCY VEHICLE. A

BOARD OF EDUCATION MAY INSTALL SPEED BUMPS OR OTHER SPEED

CONTROL DEVICES TO REGULATE TRAFFIC ON SCHOOL PROPERTY IF

WARNING SIGNS OR MARKINGS ARE DISPLAYED IN THE VICINITY OF

SPEED BUMPS OR OTHER SPEED CONTROL DEVICES.

21-803.2.

(A) PUBLIC EDUCATION AUTHORITIES EACH COUNTY BOARD OF
EDUCATION, THE BOARD OF SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS OF BALTIMORE

CITY, THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOR EACH COMMUNITY COLLEGE, THE

BOARD OF VISITORS FOR EACH STATE UNIVERSITY AND COLLEGE, THE
BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOR MORGAN STATE UNIVERSITY, THE BOARD OF
TRUSTEES FOR ST. MARY'S COLLEGE, AND THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF

THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND MAY ESTABLISH APPROPRIATE SPEED

LIMITS FOR SAFE TRAVEL ON PROPERTY UNDER THEIR JURISDICTION.
SUCH SPEED LIMITS SHALL BE POSTED ON APPROPRIATE SIGNS ON

THE PROPERTY, AND A PERSON MAY NOT DRIVE A VEHICLE ON SUCH

PROPERTY AT A SPEED THAT EXCEEDS THESE LIMITS.

(B)         PUBLIC EDUCATION AUTHORITIES MAY INSTALL SPEED

CONTROL DEVICES TO REGULATE TRAFFIC ON PROPERTY UNDER THEIR

JURISDICTION. NOTICE OF THESE DEVICES SHALL BE GIVEN ON

SIGNS OR MARKINGS ON THE PROPERTY.

SECTION 2.

AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
