Annotated Code of Maryland

(As enacted by Chapter __ of the Acts

of the General Assembly of 1978)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland

{as enacted by Chapter ______ of the Acts of the General

Assembly of 1978) be repealed, amended, or enacted to read
as follows:

Article — Education

18-603.

(c) {1) A child nay apply to the State Scholarship
Board for a scholarship under this section if his parent was
a member of the armed forces[, ] and THE PARENT WAS A
RESIDENT OF THIS STATE AT THE TIME THE PARENT:

{i) [Was a resident of this State at the
time of his induction and died] DIED or was totally and
permanently disabled as a result of military service after
December 7, 1941; or

{ii) Was declared to be a prisoner of war
or missing in action, IF THAT OCCURRED on or after January
1, 1960 as a result of the Vietnam conflict, and [was a
resident of this State at the time he was so declared,] if
the child was born while the parent was a prisoner of war or
missing in action.

{b) Any resident of this State may apply to the State
Scholarship Board under this section if he:

(1) Was a prisoner of war on or after January
1, 1960 as a result of the Vietnam conflict; and

{2) Was a resident of this State at the time
[of his induction into the armed forces] HE WAS DECLARED TO
BE A PRISONER OF WAR OR DECLARED TO BE MISSING IN ACTION.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1978.
