of [14] 16 members. The members shall be appointed by the
Governor, six at his discretion and [eight] TEN from
nominations as provided below. Each member shall serve a
term of four years and until his successor is appointed and
[qualified] QUALIFIES, except that in the initial
appointments three members shall serve for one year, three
for two years, four for three years, and four for four years
and until their successors are appointed and [qualified]
QUALIFY. THE TWO ADDITIONAL MEMBERS APPOINTED IN 1978 SHALL
SERVE FOUR-YEAR TERMS. A member may not be appointed to more
than two consecutive four—year terms. The members shall
serve without compensation but shall be reimbursed, in
accordance with the standard travel regulations, for
expenses incurred in carrying out their responsibilities as
members of the Commission.
(c) Of the appointed members, each of the following
organizations shall submit a list of three names and the
Governor shall choose one member from each list. The
organizations are:
(1) American Heart Association — Maryland
Affiliate, Inc.;
(2) Citizens Advisory Council of the Maryland
Comprehensive Health Planning Agency or its successor (the
Statewide Health Coordinating Council);
Maryland;
(3) Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of
(4) Maryland Conference of Health Officers;
(5) Maryland State Department of Health and
Mental Hygiene;
(6) Maryland Hospital Association (with the
intent that they select a representative from some hospital
involved in delivering hypertensive services on an
out—patient basis);
(7) Maryland Nurses Association; [and]
(8) The Monumental City Medical Society[. ];
(9) THE JOHNS HOPKINS HOSPITAL MEDICAL
INSTITUTION; AND
(10) THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND HOSPITAL MEDICAL
INSTITUTION.
(e) The full Commission shall meet at least twice
each year. If, for any reason, all [14] 16 members are not
present at meetings of the Commission, business may be
conducted by the members present. A decision of the
majority of the members present shall be a decision of the
Commission.
