Ch. 14
LAWS OF MARYLAND
826
(D)    REMOVING CARD OR PLATE; ATTACHING UNAUTHORIZED
REGISTRATION PLATE. A PERSON MAY NOT, WITH INTENT TO CONCEAL OR
MISREPRESENT THE IDENTITY OF A VEHICLE OR ITS OWNER: (1)       REMOVE A REGISTRATION CARD OR
REGISTRATION PLATE FROM THE VEHICLE; OR (2)   ATTACH TO THE VEHICLE A REGISTRATION
PLATE NOT AUTHORIZED BY LAW FOR USE ON IT. (E)   EXCEPTIONS. AN IDENTIFICATION NUMBER MAY BE: (1)    PLACED ON A VEHICLE OR ENGINE BY ITS
MANUFACTURER IN THE REGULAR COURSE OF BUSINESS; OR (2)   PLACED OR RESTORED ON A VEHICLE OR ENGINE
BY AUTHORITY OF THE ADMINISTRATION. REVISOR'S NOTE: This section presently appears as
Art. 66 1/2, §4-107. The present references to a violation of this section as a "misdemeanor" are deleted as unnecessary in light of §27—101 of this
article. In subsection (a)(4) of this section, the
words "counterfeit" and "duplicate" are added
to conform to the similar provisions of
§14-110 of this title. In subsection (g) of this section, the clause
"an identification number so placed or
restored is not falsified" is deleted as
unnecessary. Present §4-107(b) and (d) is deleted as
redundant. The offenses set forth in present
subsections (b) and (d) are included in the
offenses set forth in present subsections (a)
and (c), respectively—now, subsections (b)
and (c) of this section. As originally
enacted, the former were aggravated offenses
and felonies; however, as amended in 1971, the
offenses were reduced to misdemeanors and,
therefore, are subject to the identical
penalties as those retained in subsections (b)
and (c) of this section. The only other changes are in style. 14-108. RESERVED.
