UNDER THIS SECTION.
(C) ASSIGNMENT OF SPECIAL NUMBER.
(1) A SPECIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER ASSIGNED
UNDER THIS SECTION MAY CONSIST OF ANY COMBINATION OF NOT
MORE THAN SIX LETTERS AND NUMERALS.
(2) IN ITS DISCRETION, THE ADMINISTRATION KAY
REFUSE ANY COMBINATION OF LETTERS AND NUMERALS.
(D) DISPOSITION OF FEES.
OF THE PROCEEDS COLLECTED ANNUALLY FROM THE
ADDITIONAL FEES CHARGED UNDER THIS SECTION:
(1) THE FIRST $150,000 SHALL BE PAID INTO A
SPECIAL FUND ADMINISTERED BY THE STATE SCHOLARSHIP BOARD
FOR USE IN THE MEDICAL, DENTAL, LEGAL, NURSING, AND
PHARMACEUTICAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS PROVIDED BY THIS
STATE; AND
(2) EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE PROVIDED BY LAW, ANY
BALANCE SHALL BE PAID DIRECTLY INTO THE GENERAL FUNDS OF
THIS STATE.
REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from Art. 66 1/2,
§3-606.
This section and each of the other sections in
this Part are revised to reflect more
accurately the fact that, technically,
application actually is made for a special
registration number — not special plates
themselves — and that, under §13-410(b) of
this title, as set forth in §13-610 of this
subtitle, the registration plates subsequently
issued must display the registration number
assigned. No substantive change derives from
this revision.
In subsection (a) of this section, the term
"personalized" is added to distinguish more
clearly between the special plates issued
under this section and those issued under
other provisions of this Part.
In subsection (b) of this section, the present
statement that the additional $25 fee does not
apply "in those instances wherein there exists
specific legislative authorization elsewhere
... for the issuance of special plates ..." is
deleted as superfluous. It is clear from
subsection (b) that the additional fee applies
only to registrations and renewals "under this
section".
