A Senate Joint Resolution concerning
The Passing of the Honorable J. Joseph Curran, Sr.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
FOR the purpose of expressing the sympathy and respect of
the General Assembly of Maryland over the passing of
the Honorable J. Joseph Curran, Sr.
The Members of the General Assembly of Maryland
learned with sharp regret of the passing of the Honorable
J. Joseph Curran, Sr., a long-time member of the City
Council of Baltimore and the father of Senator J. Joseph
Curran, Jr.
Councilman Curran had a distinguished career in the
Baltimore City Council, having served there from 1953 to
1959 and again from 1963 to the time of his passing. He
was Vice Assistant President of the Council and served as
Chairman of the powerful Budget and Finance Committee.
Councilman Curran had a deep sense of fidelity and
devotion to the responsibilities of public office. He
was a hard working and indefatigable legislator,
constantly alert to the needs of his City and his
constituents. He had a great facility also for stirring
the respect and affection of a host of friends. He held
close acquaintanceship with literally thousands of
persons in his City and State, and his passing is being
mourned by a multitude of admirers and personal friends.
This sad event is felt with particular poignance in
the General Assembly of Maryland because of the close
association which every Member of the General Assembly
has with Councilman Curran's son, the Honorable J. Joseph
Curran, Jr. Senator Curran in carrying on his father's
tradition has won the solid respect of all Members of the
General Assembly and is a recognized statesman in his own
right.
The Members of the General Assembly of Maryland wish
to memorialize the life and accomplishments of Councilman
J. Joseph Curran, Sr.; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
the sincere sympathy of every Member of the General
Assembly is expressed over the passing of Councilman J.
Joseph Curran, Sr. of Baltimore City; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the President of the Senate and the
Speaker of the House of Delegates of Maryland be
particularly requested to convey to the family of the
late Councilman Curran and, in particular, to Senator J.
