AN ACT concerning
Prince George's County - Additional Taxing Powers
PG 229-77
FOR the purpose of authorizing the County Council of
Prince George's County to have and to exercise,
within the limits of Prince George's County, in
addition to any and all taxing powers previously
granted to it by the General Assembly, the power to
tax to the same extent as the State has or could
exercise this power within the limits of Prince
George's County; providing for certain exceptions
and limitations to this power; enacting certain
other legislation to provide for assessment,
imposition, levy, and collection of any tax or taxes
authorized by this Act; from time to time granting
exemptions and modifying or repealing existing or
future exemptions; from time to time increasing,
modifying or repealing the taxes; providing that if
any provision of this Act is held invalid, the
invalidity does not affect other provisions; and
providing that the Prince George's County Council
may allocate and distribute to each municipal
corporation of the county a proportion of the
revenues collected pursuant to the authority of this
Act, the proportion to be in amounts based on a
certain formula or percentage.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That new Section 18-1A be and it is hereby
added to the Public Local Laws of Prince George's County
being Article 17 of the Public Local Laws of Maryland
(1963 Edition and 1967 Supplement, as amended) to read as
follows:
Article 17
18-1A.
(A) EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN SUBSECTIONS (B) AND (C),
THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, WITHIN THE
LIMITS OF PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY AND IN ADDITION TO ANY
AND ALL TAXING POWERS GRANTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MAY IN ITS OWN DISCRETION TAX TO
THE SAME EXTENT AS THE STATE HAS OR COULD EXERCISE ITS
POWER WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE COUNTY AS A PART OF THE
GENERAL TAXING POWER OF PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY; AND MAY
PROVIDE BY ORDINANCE FOR THE IMPOSITION, ASSESSMENT,
LEVY, AND COLLECTION OF ANY TAX OR TAXES AUTHORIZED BY
