AN ACT concerning
Deepwater Ports - Siting
FOR the purpose of establishing certain procedures for
the location, construction and operation of
deepwater ports off the coastal water of Maryland;
defining certain terms; restricting the State from
being an applicant under certain Federal programs;
defining the duties of the Secretary of the
Department of Natural Resources; establishing a
certain procedure for implementing the State's
procedure on an application site; and relating
generally to the construction of deepwater ports
along and adjacent to the coastal water of Maryland.

Article — Natural Resources
Section 3-601 through 3—605, inclusive, to be under
the new subtitle, "Subtitle 6. Maryland
Deepwater Port Siting Act"

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That new Sections 3-601 through 3-605,
inclusive, to be under the new subtitle, "Subtitle 6.
Maryland Deepwater Port Siting Act" be and they are
hereby added to Article - Natural Resources, of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1974 Volume and 1976
Supplement) to read as follows:

SUBTITLE 6. MARYLAND DEEPWATER PORT SITING ACT
3-601. PURPOSE.
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY FINDS AND DECLARES THAT THE
INCREASING ENERGY REQUIREMENTS OF THE STATE AND NATION
CONTINUE TO EXCEED DOMESTIC SOURCES OF ENERGY SUPPLY AND
THAT DEMAND MUST BE MET, AT LEAST IN THE NEAR FUTURE, BY
IMPORTED OIL. CONSTRUCTION OF DEEPWATER PORTS IN WATERS
ADJACENT TO THE CONTINENTAL SHELF OF THE UNITED STATES
