AN ACT concerning
Registration of School Vehicles
FOR the purpose of providing that when a Type I school
vehicle is operated with approval from a board of
education in any county or the City of Baltimore to
provide transportation for persons a certain age or
older to civic, educational, social, or recreational
activities it may display "school bus" registration
plates and is not required to display "school
charter" plates, and to specify the registration
fees that apply.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Sections 13-420(b) and 13-932 of Article -
Transportation, of the Annotated Code of Maryland (As
enacted by Chapter_____ of the Acts of the General
Assembly of 1977) be and they are hereby repealed and
reenacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
Article — Transportation
13-420.
(b) (1) If it is only operated for the
transportation of children, students, or teachers for
educational purposes or in connection with a school
activity OR IF IT IS OPERATED, WITH APPROVAL FROM A BOARD
OF EDUCATION IN ANY COUNTY OR THE CITY OF BALTIMORE, TO
PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION FOR PERSONS 60 YEARS OF AGE OLD OR
OLDER TO CIVIC, EDUCATIONAL, SOCIAL, OR RECREATIONAL
ACTIVITIES, a Type I school vehicle (school bus) shall:
(i) display distinctive "school bus"
registration plates issued by the Administration; and
(ii) comply with all the requirements
of the Maryland Vehicle Law and the regulations of the
Administration that relate to a Type I school vehicle.
(2) If it is operated for any purpose in
addition to [the transportation of children, students, or
teachers for educational purposes or in connection with a
school activity] THOSE SPECIFIC IN SUBSECTION (B)
PARAGRAPH (1) OF THIS SECTION SUBSECTION, a Type I school
vehicle (school bus) shall display distinctive "school
