AN ACT concerning
Restitution for Crimes
FOR the purpose of providing that a court may enter a
judgment and order order a criminal defendant to
make restitution of certain losses sustained by a
victim or certain property owned by a victim or
where the victim suffered certain injuries or losses
against the defendant in a criminal proceeding of
the crime perpetrated by the defendant; providing
for administration by the Division of Parole and
Probation; and defining certain terms.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That new Section 640 be and it is hereby added
to Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments, of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1976 Replacement Volume and 1976
Supplement) to read as follows:

640.
(A) IN THIS SUBTITLE:, THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE
MEANINGS INDICATED, UNLESS THE CONTEXT OF THEIR USE
INDICATES OTHERWISE.
(1) "COURT" MEANS THE COURT OF APPEALS,
COURT OF SPECIAL APPEALS, CIRCUIT COURT, AND DISTRICT
COURT OF MARYLAND, OR ANY OF THEM, UNLESS THE CONTEXT
CLEARLY REQUIRES A CONTRARY MEANING.
